THE Story: How it started

Iceland by Guide: From Fear to Freedom, and From Dreams to Reality

Let me tell you how this all started. Iceland by Guide wasn’t just an idea—it was a leap of faith, a way to take control of my life, and a chance to share what I love most: nature, health, and connection.

Growing up in the Icelandic countryside, I was always outdoors—riding horses, working on farms, helping in my dad’s construction company. I learned early on that life is about showing up and putting your heart into everything you do. But I also learned that I wanted more than just “work.” I wanted meaning.

Fast forward to 2013, when I started on my first tour as a tour guide. By 2016, I took the leap and founded Iceland by Guide, because I realized the magic of sharing Iceland’s incredible landscapes with people from all over the world. At the same time, I felt this deep pull toward health and wellness. It wasn’t just about showing people the views; it was about helping them reconnect—with nature, with themselves, and with a sense of balance that so many of us are missing in our busy lives.

In 2017, I joined a Startup Tourism Program with two yoga-loving friends. We didn’t know exactly where it would lead, but we knew one thing: we wanted to create travel experiences that were healing, personal, and unforgettable. That program taught us to dream big, learn from mistakes, and lean into cooperation.

Since then, Iceland by Guide has been a journey of growth, mistakes, wins, and constant reinvention. It hasn’t always been smooth sailing—I’ve faced fear, self-doubt, and the chaos of starting something from scratch. But my grandfather Benedikt always said, “Step into your fear—it’s the only way forward.”

Today, we’re about more than just tours. We’re about creating small-group experiences that leave you feeling healthier, happier, and more alive. Whether it’s hiking through untouched wilderness, sharing stories over clean, wholesome Icelandic food, or just breathing in the pure air and resetting your mind, we want you to leave feeling better than when you arrived.
